With the approval of your Family Dr. or Cardiologist please discontinue your blood thinner’s [aspirin, Eliquis, Coumadin, ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve etc.] no later than one week before your circumcision and for an additional three days past your circumcision.  If you need pain control before or after your circumcision you may use Tylenol, tramadol or the Norco’s we prescribed you.
 

The night before surgery do not take anything by mouth that is either food or drink.  Your anesthesiologist will guide you when and how to take your daily medications.
 

At the time of your pre-operative visit Amy will be giving you two medications prescriptions. A. Levaquin 750 mg, once daily, #10 to help prevent urinary tract infections. B. Norco 10 mg #60, one to two every 4-6 hours for penile pain and discomfort. Please fill these prescriptions prior to surgery so that on your day of surgery everything is set at home for your recuperation the day of surgery.  This is to avoid last-minute pharmacy visits.  Go straight home after surgery to relax and begin healing. 
 

No physical activity for 21 days and no sexual activity for 6 weeks to improve healing and to avoid bloody incisional drainage.  Also apply ice q15 minutes for 6 hours after your circumcision to reduce swelling and discomfort. 
 

After your surgery you will have a penile incision about 3-4 centimeters around your penis.  You will have 12-14 stitches that will be blue in color so keep them dry and clean. If your penis skin gets too dry it’s okay to apply some moisturizer and Vaseline ointment for up to two weeks after surgery.  If the incision gets itchy it’s okay to apply some Benadryl ointment 4x times a day around the incision for 1-2 weeks or as long as your incision remains itchy.
 

Your stitches will start to come off in 3-4 weeks and do not pull them out.  Let them fall out on their own.  Pulling or cutting them will lead to bleeding, pain and potential infection.  Again, use Benadryl and moisturizer cream a few times a day until your healing is blood less, itch less and beginning to look completely done in 4-6 weeks.
