Patient Anterior or Posterior Repair with Lightweight Prolene Mesh and Bilateral Sacrospinous Fixation

  1. With the approval of your Family Dr. or Cardiologist please discontinue your blood thinner’s [aspirin, Eliquis, Coumadin, ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve etc.] no later than one week before your Anterior/Posterior Repair with Lightweight Mesh and for an additional three days past your vaginal surgery.  If you need pain control before or after your vaginal surgery you may use Tylenol, Tramadol or the Norco’s we prescribed you.
     

  2. The night before surgery do not take anything by mouth that is either food or drink.  Your anesthesiologist will guide you when and how to take your daily medications.
     

  3. The antibiotics and pain prescriptions you were given before surgery should be filled before your surgery but not consumed before your surgery.  Consumption of your narcotics medications before surgery will result in you not receiving any further narcotic medications other than Meloxicam or smaller dose of Tramadol.
     

  4. After your surgery you will have both a vaginal incision.  Your vaginal incision is closed with bluish suture that will self -dissolve in 3-4 weeks.  After surgery 7-10 days you may experience vaginal bleeding so please do not take blood thinning medications until three days after your surgery.
     

  5. Please start your pain and antibiotic medication immediately upon arrival back home and call the office should you not be tolerating either your antibiotic or pain medication and Amy, Paula or Nicole will call in another prescription.
     

  6. Will the use of any narcotic medications the use of over the counter stool softeners as MiraLAX, MOM, Senekot, Dulcolax are necessary and a prescription can be given to you upon request should these stool softeners not meet your expectations.
     

  7. You should for 4-6 weeks after surgery refrain from lighting anything more than 10 pounds, no heavy physical exertion such as picking up children, dogs, laundry or groceries.  No intercourse for 6-8 weeks after your blue vaginal sutures dissolve and break apart. Please refrain from driving for 2 weeks.
